Following
on its successful debut last year, the National Fast Serve Challenge has partnered with
Tennis Against Breast Cancer to create an extended tour for 2007-08 with a goal of raising
$850,000 for breast cancer programs. The goal remains to find the worlds
fastest serverlast years winner Brett Donnelly from Florida clocked a 141 mph
bomb to take home the Grand Prize and
NFSCtour No. 1 rankinghowever, for 2007-08 the NFSC Tour added separate mens
and womens categories as well as age divisions from 10 and Under to 55 and Over. Now
everyone has a shot at glory.
By broadening the
scope, the NFSC Tour has turned the competition into a festival for tennis players of all
ages. Film crews will be on hand shooting
footage for On Court With the Stars, the syndicated sports show hosted by
former touring pro Leif Shiras. While the competition takes place, Tennis Against Breast
Cancer will have booths distributing
information about breast cancer and raising money for research and programs by accepting
donations and selling a variety of merchandise, including the Tour sponsors TBA,
tennis books, clothing bearing the TABC/NFSCtour logo.
Also enhanced this
year is the radar itself. To ensure consistency from site to site, the NFSC Tour equips
each venue with identical NFSC Tour Sports Radar systems. Redesigned for 2006, this
technologically innovative system now consists of a pair of radar guns, each not much
larger than an Ipod, wired to a bright LED display. The dual system ensures greater
accuracy, whether the server is right- or left-handed or chooses to serve from the deuce
or ad court.
Anyone may apply for the chance to compete (there are forms and rules at www.NFSCtour.com).
Several venues have already staked out spot in the enhanced 2007-08 NFSC Tour. There
will be trophies and prizes for all winners in each category at each site, regional
rankings, and a Grand Prize for the fastest server overall in 2007.
